Windows Network discovery is a network setting which decides whether all the computers and devices connected on network can find your PC or vice versa. You can disable network discovery in your Windows PC if you don’t want to be discoverable by others on the network. Do keep in mind you will also be unable to find other computers if you turn off network discovery.

It is recommended to enable network discovery for private networks and keep it disabled for public networks. The reason behind this is, private networks are safe while public networks are not safe at all.

Whenever you connect your Windows PC to the network for the first time, you are asked to choose whether the network is Private, Public or Domain based. You can choose your preference at that moment too.

There are various methods to enable or disable network discovery. In this blog post, we are going to discuss all the methods available.
