Last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook visited India and discussed the matter of manufacturing Apple iPhones with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At that moment, no official confirmation was given. Still it was indication that Apple wants to expand its manufacturing in Indian market.

“Apple’s intentions to manufacture in Bengaluru will foster cutting edge technology ecosystem and supply chain development in the state, which are critical for India to compete globally,” the government of Karnataka State said in a statement.

Apple has kept some of the demands in front of the Indian government prior to start manufacturing iPhones. Apple wants to have 15-year Custom duty holiday on import of iPhone kits (new as well as used). It is not confirmed that what will be the decision of Indian government. The government will definitely consider upon the Apple’s request as Apple provides higher technology smartphones containing least hazardous substances. Besides this, Apple wants to have the permission to open its own exclusive stores in India without partnership with other retailers. This demand was approved by the government.
