How To Speed Up Windows Search By Indexing Certain Locations
You might have kept lots of files in your computer and used to search one or more of them. Everyone has a different requirement of searching files. One may need to find files from C: drive and another from D: or E: drive. Majority of the computer users used to search personal files, photos and videos by the help of Windows search and as per my experience they keep their files in a particular storage location.
There is a simple and most preferable way to trim down the number of files that are being indexed. Try this trimming method and avoid indexing of unwanted storage locations. For example, if you are very well aware that you usually search the files which are not available in C: drive then why do you waste process time of indexing the files of same drive. Choose the certain locations for indexing by the following process.
Open the start menu and type indexing options in the search box of your PC. Now click on it.
Click Modify button which is appearing on the Indexing Options window.
You can see a number of indexed locations on the next window. You can select or deselect the indexing location by clicking on check boxes and can see the summary of what you have included or excluded for the indexing. After making changes click on OK button to apply those changes.
After making changes in indexing do check your Windows search. This will surely enhance the search speed.
How To Disable Windows Search
Although Windows search is a useful tool, some of the Windows user don’t prefer to use this. Moreover, some of the users use another search tool and want to disable Windows Search tool. If you are one of them and willing to disable this tool then just follow a simple procedure.
Click on Start and type Services in the search box. Then select the result.
Double click on the option of Windows Search appearing in the right pane of the window.
Now select disable option from the drop down menu under Startup type option. Click on stop button and then OK button to finish the process.
If you want to enable Windows Search then you can do this at any moment by following same process.
How To Rebuild Windows Search Index
If you are not satisfied with the performance of Windows Search then you can also rebuild Windows Search Index. Though it is time consuming process but you can do your work side by side. Rebuilding the Window Search Index will solve all the annoying issues of Windows Search. This is recommended when you are facing problems while finding files that should be indexed and unable to fix search issues. Even we suggest you to rebuild the index when your computer is not in use.
Open the Indexing Options window and then click on Advanced button.
Click on the Rebuild button on the Advanced Options window.
Confirmation window will appear on the screen. Click OK button to confirm the rebuilding the index.
